Implants: The modern way to replace missing teeth
Implants are the most durable and life-like option for replacing missing teeth. They consist of three components:
- The IMPLANT itself
This acts like the root of the new tooth. It’s made of titanium and is inserted into your gum, where it ‘fuses’ to your tissue over a period of time.
- The ABUTMENT
It partially screws into the implant and partially sticks out of your gum with a ‘post’.
- The CROWN
Thanks to ceramic dental technology, the crown is now virtually indistinguishable from your other teeth.
Replacing missing teeth with implants has many benefits:
- They are extremely durable
- They are a permanent & fixed solution
- They have a life-like appearance
- You can clean them like normal teeth
- Your healthy teeth stay intact during the procedure
At a first appointment, we insert the implant into a pre-drilled hole in the jawbone, under local anaesthetic. It takes around 8-12 weeks for it to ‘fuse’ with your existing jaw, before a mould can be taken to create a custom-made abutment. At a third appointment, we fit the abutment, fix a custom-made, ceramic crown over it and your smile is restored!
